Campinas, the name is originated from a Portuguese word which means grass fields. It is Southeastern Municipality of São Paulo State in Brazil. This region is characterized by a landscape showcasing an array of dense forests, rivers and range of hillocks covered with shrubby vegetation.
Barreto Leme founded Campinas on July 14, 1774. During the first half of 19th century, Campinas prospered with farming of coffee, cotton and sugarcane along with its growing and thriving inhabitants. Another reason for the development of this city is the railway link between São Paulo and Santos’ seaport. In later half of the same century slavery was abolished but farming and Industries continued progressing. The foreign immigrants from far countries like Italy provided the needed manpower and filled the gap created after the end of slavery.
