About Campinas



Campinas, the name is originated from a Portuguese word which means grass fields. It is Southeastern Municipality of São Paulo State in Brazil. This region is characterized by a landscape showcasing an array of dense forests, rivers and range of hillocks covered with shrubby vegetation.

Barreto Leme founded Campinas on July 14, 1774. During the first half of 19th century, Campinas prospered with farming of coffee, cotton and sugarcane along with its growing and thriving inhabitants. Another reason for the development of this city is the railway link between São Paulo and Santos’ seaport. In later half of the same century slavery was abolished but farming and Industries continued progressing. The foreign immigrants from far countries like Italy provided the needed manpower and filled the gap created after the end of slavery.

Weather in the city of Campinas, range from dry and gentle winters to hot summers. The intermediate rainy season is warm and humid and autumn and spring add to the variety of seasons in Campinas. Though its name suggests, Campinas to resemble a lush grass field, actually it is quite the opposite. The discredit goes to the incessant the destruction of ecology to a great extent. Campinas, due to excessive deforestation and destroyed environment, face the threat of floods and subsequent silting.

The city of Campinas has grown to riches due to its coffee export. Its affluence is quite obviously visible with the appearance of opera house, shopping malls, theaters, business and financial buildings, cinema theaters. Campinas also has  radio stations, a philharmonic orchestra, newspapers, impressive public education services, health-care facilities for everyone from the well-off citizens to the poor people through charity service.

Campinas has progressed and so did its faculties like a research institutes for agriculture, nanotechnology and biosciences. A highway all to the city of São Paulo is an assurance for interstate connectivity and future business prospects. The Economical landscape of the city is also promising with growth of industries like petrochemicals, IT, Automobiles, Telecommunications in addition to the original vocation of agriculture and farming.
